How it works — step by step.

Getting started is easier than most people expect. Here's the whole path, so there are no surprises.

1

Start with a GP

Book a longer appointment with one of our doctors and talk through what's been going on.

2

Get a care plan

If it's right for you, your GP prepares a Mental Health Treatment Plan — this unlocks Medicare rebates.

3

Meet your psychologist

We match you with a psychologist, including in Cantonese or Mandarin where possible, and book your first session.

4

Work at your pace

Up to 10 Medicare-rebated sessions each calendar year, if eligible, with your GP checking in along the way.

Before your first visit

What to expect, so you can relax.

  • It's a conversation, not a test.Your first session is simply getting to know you and what you'd like help with.
  • You set the pace. You never have to share more than you're ready to. There's no pressure.
  • It stays private. What you share is confidential, within the safety limits your psychologist will explain.
  • Sessions run about 50 minutes.Come as you are — there's nothing you need to prepare or bring.

Good to know

Your questions, answered.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
To receive Medicare rebates, you first see a GP, who can prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan and refer you. You're also welcome to see a psychologist privately, without a referral, at the full fee.
What is a Mental Health Treatment Plan?
It's a plan your GP prepares after a longer consultation that gives you access to Medicare rebates for psychology sessions — up to 10 individual sessions each calendar year, if eligible.
How many sessions does Medicare cover?
With a Mental Health Treatment Plan, eligible patients can receive a Medicare rebate for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. Your GP reviews how you're going along the way.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes — what you share is private and confidential, within the standard legal and safety limits your psychologist will explain clearly at your first session.
How much does it cost?
With a valid plan, a Medicare rebate applies to each eligible session, and any out-of-pocket gap is explained to you before your appointment — so there are never surprises.
Can I see a psychologist who speaks Cantonese or Mandarin?
Our team cares for patients in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Let reception know your preferred language when you book and we'll match you where possible.
